New York Teil 5: Vivi Bubble Tea & Twins 99 Cents Plus

Monday 10:01:11 / Evening:

In the evening we went running towards China Town. At home I've even picked out extra quickly before leaving the address of a bubble tea shop. For many addresses I then decided spontaneously Vivi Bubble Tea . Was not one bad decision as to finally get out that:)

Vivi Bubble Tea be found in the heart of Chinatown in the 49 Bayard Street, New York 10013

the still very small fine shop is very cute Asian design . Before the store sits a giant figure of Homer Simpson one of the snack-day offer shows. Behind the counter were three very friendly Japanese girls to a drinks and snacks are freshly prepared. The left wall was delivered complete with vending machines, where you could consider various manga and anime characters. And on the right side could sit at a bar. Sorry, could not sit there like 4 people and we got no place. Too bad, would like to be there once inserted a little break. (

All drinks are there in 2 sizes to truly unbeatable prices, 16 oz (450 ml) for $ 2.95 and 24 oz ( 750 ml) for $ 3.95. The selection is also pretty neat. You get Slush, Lemon Jelly, yogurt drinks, pudding, Flavored Tea and of course Milk Tea in many different flavors. have too great, I found they freshly made Japanese snacks and desserts like Takoyaki , Tempura, Popcorn Chicken or ice Azukibohnen etc. available there.

I decided like most for a small Bubble Milk Green Tea. Very, very tasty. Until now, the best I have been drinking in a Bubble Tea Shop. not bad that the shop for me is around the corner; _;

the end I still have a VIP card obtained. With it you get 20% on all purchases and if you bought 5 drinks, you get the 6th given. Pretty cool, huh?

Then we have the store Twins 99 Cents Plus found. A kind 100-yen shop prices that were often well over 99 cents, however. This shop was up to the ceiling with Japanese cooking utensils, household items, snacks and other odds and ends filled. It came with the thick winter jackets little lies along the corridors XD

The shop on the border with Italy in the Litte 203 Grand Street (between Mott Street and Mulberry Street) , New York 10 013

Here I only took a couple of Japanese sweets. Many things that have interested me, I could not take because of the size anyway, since I had only limited space in your suitcase and would rather use for other things.

The Asian owner, however, I found something funny. When we were there, up on us no one in the store. The woman followed a step by step, always has some things in addition to a filter on the shelf and beautiful watch that one too so no stealing;) probably had already made several long time now and it really meant not bad, I felt somewhat before observed, as could be just anything from the crowded shelves, take down as well, what could have been covered. Hence, the shopping feeling was there not so great, I liked the shop has said even with the bunch but very motley assortment.

be continued .. .

Here you come to Part 1, Part 2 , Part 3, Part 4 the trip.

Snack Review: Morinaga Hi-Chew Aloe Joghurt Kaubonbons / Haichuuaroeyoguruto

Maybe some of you have ever seen in the chewy candies from Morinaga Asialaden or tried. There are countless varieties of them in Japan. Most with fruity flavor, but there are also varieties such as Cheescake, pudding, etc. Ramune
In Japan, the Hi-Chew Chewy candies are among the most famous sweets. Here you come to English or Japanese page Morinaga, but there are only the usual sorts of shows.

This aloe yogurt chews I brought with me in New York from a Japanese 99 cent store. I was just curious how aloe tastes. Until now I had only Aloe Soothing against Sunburn used and I found it has not smelled so delicious and more like drugs. Well, curiosity has cost then won anyway XD
they $ 1.99 . There

the on the package shown aloe yogurt by the way it actually see here.

in the kit are 12 small rectangular cubes, which are similar in size to our Maoam . All individually in silver foil with Hi-Chew printed packaging.

This chewy, incidentally not like most other varieties Hi-Chew a fruity core, but is consistently off-white.

From odor you smell her little or rather nothing of the aloe. I think it smells like a normal soft candy with a little honey note. So very pleasant.
From the consistency view, it is somewhat softer than the chewy candy that exists in us. It is also very fast in the mouth soft and then gets a slightly creamy consistency.
The taste is pleasantly sweet, slightly sour taste it, and the aloe out only discreetly. From yoghurt I have tasted nothing but. Probably the chewy candy will become even softer.

Conclusion:
So I found the aloe chews quite tasty, although I would have liked the taste a little aloe intersiever because you really only very little of it and it would have tasted more than lemon candy can go through. In comparison to other types of Hi-Chew, I found it did not succeed quite so.

Rezept: Hishi Mochi Cheesecake / 菱餅 like no-bake cheesecake

Hina Matsuri is indeed over, but I have totally forgotten in the stress images from Hishi Mochi Cheesecake to post. So here is the addendum to:)

Hishi Mochi is actually a diamond-shaped rice cake usually made of a red, white and green layer is made of and fully Mochi is. Each region can be even 5-7 layers. On Hina Matsuri, he is usually presented with the Hina Ningy ō .

The three colors naturally have a symbolic significance, it is the green layer for the coming spring, the white layer for the purity of the snow and the red layer of plum blossoms.

Cheesecake This is however not a rice cake. The name of the cake was taken because of the colors and is made by many Japanese to Hina Matsuri.
He is the way to make it very easy and the best part is that you do not bake it needs because it contains gelatin . The red layer is made of strawberry, the white of cream cheese and the green of Matcha. The various flavors blend together really well.

For the vegetarian version of the gelatin can be replaced by agar (Japanese edges). This must only be ensured that one Agar takes a little less, because otherwise gels such as gelatin.

For this recipe I've used a flat Tupperware bowl with the dimensions 13x16.

recipe 8 pieces yields:
  • 80g biscuits
  • 40g butter
  • 300g cream cheese
  • 240ml cream
  • 120g yoghurt
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon matcha
  • 80g strawberries
  • 12g gelatine or 9 g agar powder 5 tablespoons water
first interpret First, the dish with plastic wrap. So you can then easily lift the cake from the mold.

second the biscuits into a bag and give it cut for example with a meat mallet into very fine crumbs. The butter in the microwave briefly heat, they become liquid and mix with the Keksbröseln. Then place the mixture into the mold and press firmly. 15 minutes in the refrigerator.

third the gelatin with the water in a small bowl for 10 minutes to swell.

4th Whip the cream with the cream cheese, yogurt and sugar, stir until smooth.

5th The gelatin now for about 10-20 seconds in the microwave heat until it becomes liquid and cream cheese to the . Give Note: The agar powder can be added directly into the cream cheese to swell without before.

6th The cream cheese in possible three equal parts.

7th In give a portion of cream cheese 1 tablespoon matcha now and mix well. The mass on the Keksboden distributed in the form and enter for 15 minutes in the refrigerator.

8th Now the white cream cheese spread on the green and give for 15 minutes in the refrigerator.

9th the strawberries in a blender puree and mix with the remaining cheese sauce. The mass of the white layer and spread to the whole a few hours in the refrigerator.

10th the finished cheesecake out of the mold lift, cut into desired shape and serve on a plate.

Surely you know Napoli Spaghetti (spaghetti with a simple tomato sauce). Here I show you even the Japanese version of it called the Spaghetti Napolitan or Naporitan.
Typical ingredients for this include onions, peppers, ham, Vienna sausage, bacon or other meat and sausages.

The recipe for Spaghetti Napolitan was briefly after the second world war. At that time, a chef of a hotel in Yokohama, which was used as a base by U.S. troops, had invented this recipe. Tomato paste at this time was difficult to get, he had simply replaced with ketchup.
It quickly became a popular meal that was cooked like at home and in restaurant.

Actually, I eat pasta with ketchup even less happy, but in combination with all the ingredients I think it is incredibly delicious. Also, I have so often done in Bento communicated removed, since the sauce is also good to eat cold.

Vegetarians can omit the ham, of course:)

Serves 4:
  • 400g spaghetti
  • 1.5 liters of water 2 tablespoons salt

Gemüse: Enokitake / Enoki mushrooms

Enokitake are sometimes a little yellowish white long thin mushrooms with a small cap. In Japan they are very popular and are grown there for over 300 years. After the Shiitake they are there to the most cultivated edible mushrooms. Here they are also known as snow fungus or Spawn .
past were bred Enokitake times on wood, but nowadays they are cultivated in large quantities in a kind of plastic bottles with Sägemehlsubstrat to see well on this side (Japanese) or here .
The wild form these fungi, however, is brown and has thicker stems.

The Enoki can be used very versatile so they can be fried, for example, steaming, place in soup or even eat raw as salad. They taste slightly nutty flavor and are very crisp. However, you should fry them only briefly, since they lose their flavor quickly.

In larger Asialäden find them often in the fresh vegetables on the shelves. There they are packed in small bags. I paid for my Enokitake for a 200g pack € 1.50 . They keep packed a week in the refrigerator.

I had these fungi also brought ever tasted from a can, but I found it rather disgusting, because they were labbrig something slimy and totally. That was not quite my thing. So I prefer to grab back to the fresh mushrooms.

Somehow I have to every time I Mushrooms in the hands, keep thinking about the tree spirits from Princess Mononoke . Somehow, they do have similarity, right? XD

New York Part 4: Wall Street & Ground Zero

Monday 10:01:11 / Afternoon:

After the small harbor tour with visit to the Statue of Liberty , we went to lunch north through the Financial Destrict to Wall Street further. We are again briefly strolled through Battery Park, at the U.S. Custom House are over and then down Broadway to Wall Street went along. Here we have
for lunch only time an original American hot dog from one of the many street stalls indulgence. The sausage was a bit of getting used to, but otherwise it was quite tasty.

abounds in every corner of it here so before police, who are either traveling by foot or car. But not only in financial Destrict the levy of the police is so enormous, but in all of Manhattan. But we have the least disturbance. It has thus not felt unsafe in any case. Incidentally, the siren wailing as we know it from movies, we have heard in NY rare.

Links: Next to the Wall Street is the Trinity Church . Although it is 86 meters high, but between all the skyscrapers it looks rather small.

Right: 40 Wall Street also The Trump Building called 283 meters high and proud.

located in this district the way, the most and tallest skyscraper in New York. I had not written in the first post I was disappointed at the arrival of the height of the building somewhat, but here it was already huge: D

think that Wall Street will surely be a concept you. These are for many banks and the largest exchange in the world, the New York Stock Exchange (right).
So the Wall Street very clean and rather unspectacular. Prior to most buildings are huge with bollards security barriers and security personnel.

left is the stock market , right the Federal Hall, a former Congress building. In front of the bronze statue of George Washington.

Then we took a walk next to Ground Zero . The image above I have photographed from a Bauplakat because you actually can see very little of the site. All around are fences erected to block one's view.

are why we went to the other side. There, a temporary bridge was built across the street. From here you could see a little more.

The picture shows the shell of the left 1 WTC building. It will sometimes be the tallest building in New York. The building right next to the WTC 7 has already been made ready. And right you see the future 4 WTC .
The website of the WTC way you can see how the whole time to look like.

Opposite the site, the Tribute WTC Visitor Center that we have visited. There is a museum and memorial in one. Here you get more time tells how it all on 11 September was what happened after that and look how to rebuild. In addition, there are also several photographs of the people , personal memorabilia items have been pulled from the rubble like a big deformed steel beam and much, much more shown. Many gifts were issued from abroad. Sometimes I had to keep back the tears really, because it was visible but very poignant and sad at the time what all happened. A visit is worth in any case, but pictures here on I will not post.

But to return to the topic of Japan again, where they had issued an original origami crane of Sadako Sasaki from 1955. She was then bomb victims in Hiroshima, and with its over 1,000 cranes become famous, they had their time in the hospital folded up to her death. Since that date, origami cranes in Japan as a symbol of peace.

The Crane in 2007, donated by Sasakos sister at the Visitor Center. Hope you can see him fairly, he's been more than 1-2 cm in size.

The staircase to the lower part of the museum, were still further 10,000 origami cranes by Japanese school children, relatives and friends the victims of 11th September folded and sent to the Visitor Center. You should stand for the hope for peace in the world.
