New York, Part 3: Statue of Liberty and a view of south Manhattan

Monday 10:01:11 / morning :

standing today actually something else on our map, but since the weather was so great and we did not know how it would be the next day, we decided the southern part of Manhattan and Statue of Liberty explore.

First there was a good but very American Breakfast at Applebee's , with potato wedges, egg, filled croissants and coffee. This was sometimes the best breakfast we ate in New York, or have found. Then it was on the subway further to the south.
The drive from our hotel in Times Square to the southern tip had lasted barely half an hour. Those were mere 15 km.

Once there, the path led by the Battery Park . We had to first go through the whole park at the ferry ticket and come. Thanks to the New York Pass we did not wait long here on our tickets. That was really handy because it was full and the mega shortly after 10 clock. So if you should be there once before and got to visit the Statue of Liberty, be as early as possible there.

After we had got the tickets, we went to the waiting tent. Fortunately, because out there were only about 0 degrees and the ferry ran only every half hour. Here one first was complete as checked at the airport. The whole program indicated. This of course also took forever because it was so full. Well, then we had to wait fifteen minutes on the ferry.

The trip was terrible cold. Feels Like 20 ° C. One could hardly look in the direction of travel and we are frozen pictures of the hands through the gloves when. We had the pictures because standing on the deck, but the pain was worthwhile: D

From the ferry had you have a good view of the Statue of Liberty. The ferry is also driven an extra sheet so that you could take a look at all sides of the statue.
small
How do the people along the way but towards the statue;)
If I remember correctly, it measures 46 meters, together with base even more than 90 meters. In the base there is another museum where we were not. First, lack of time and secondly because it once again extra entry (not in the NY Pass mentioned) would have cost and we would once again through a security check to go.

From Liberty Iceland we have somehow not so much Pictures made. The view of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty were just much more beautiful;)

Here I have another panoramic image created from Manhattan. Unfortunately, the quality is not as good as on the original images, but still find it really awesome now: D

If it all pans to the left, you can see Ellis Iceland. The skyscrapers in the background already belong to New Jersey. Ellis Iceland just to the right you look north to the Manhattan with the Empire State Building. In the middle where you can see the crane on the building, now the new World Trade Center buildings are built. And the far right of the view of the southern Manhattan.

The return trip, we then spent in the lower part of the ferry. We were just frozen solid yet. The ferry was then still held at Ellis Iceland. Ellis Iceland was the site of the New York immigration office and more than 30 years, the central collection point for emigrants to the United States. There, 1892-1954 about 12 million immigrants arrived and been cleared. There could have been a museum in which we NY would be our passport came in, but we then decided lack of time and the cold, however.

continued ...

Here you come to Part 1, Part 2 , Part 4, Part 5 the trip.
